Spruce Tea:

Boil fresh green spruce needles to make a tea rich in vitamin C.

Grasshoppers:

Grasshoppers and Locust are edible and actuall taste pretty good (not really). 

Pinch off their heads, legs, and wings.  Blanch for 45 seconds in salty boiling water.  Dry and slow roast.  Salt & enjoy!

Dandelion Soup: (feeds two)

1 Cup fresh dandelion greens

4 beef boullion cubes

3 Cups water

Black pepper to taste

1/2 tsp Onion powder

1/2 tsp Salt

1/2 OZ beef jerky chopped

Bring water to a boil.  Add boullion cubes and greens.  Lower to simmer and add beef jerky, onion powder, pepper and salt.  Cook about 10 minutes and serve.  More water may be added if desired.

Grape Leaves:

Find grape leaves on grape vines and pick before leaves change color.  Wash thoroughly.  Use for stuffed grape leaves or boil as a side dish or addition to soups.

Super Trail Soup: (feeds three to four)

1 packet vegetable soup mix

2 packets beef or chicken noodle soup mix

4 - 5 cups water

1 tsp garlic powder

1 6oz can V8 juice

1 6oz can or packet meat or chicken

1/2 tsp black pepper

2 tsp dried minced onions

1 oz worchester sauce

3oz ketchup

salt to taste

Add all ingredients and heat just below boil.  Simmer for 15 minutes and serve.

Tomato Spam Soup: (feeds 3-4)

2 chicken boullion cubes

10 oz water

1 can spam sliced thin

1 onion or equiv. minced onion re hydrated

1 can tomato soup

2 cooked potatoes sliced (10-12 oz)

black pepper

garlic powder

Brown potatoes, onions and spam together in deep fry pan using olive oil.

Add tomato soup, water, bullion with garlic powder and pepper to taste. 

Cook over med to low heat for 15-20 minutes stirring frequently.

Flat Pan Bread:

1 oz cooking oil

2 pinches salt

1 cup whole wheat or white flour

1 egg or egg mix equiv.

1 cup water mixed w/2 tsp milk powder

1 oz wheat germ

Coat fry pan with oil. 

Add remaining oil, salt, milk, water, egg, wheat germ & flour in bowl and mix thoroughly. 

Form patties and fry until brown on both sides. 

Marinade for red meat:

10 oz Italian dressing

1 tsp black pepper

1 tsp garlic pepper

4 oz worchestershire sauce

1/2 tsp onion powder

1 tsp montreal steak seasoning

Mix together and use as a marinade or baste.

Roscoe's Bambi Bites:

Cut venison steaks or chops into bite size pieces.  Add marinade as shown above and meat in a zip lock bag or marinade pan and place in refrigerator for 2 to 3 days. 

After that, dip meat chucks in a bread crumb, four, cracker mix and brown in olive oil in a skillet at high medium heat.  Do not over cook. 

Turn the pieces just as each side becomes brown. 

Place the pieces on a cookie sheet and cook for 15 - 20 minutes in a 350 degree preheated oven.

Remove meat, drain if necessary.
